So cute! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first royal baby, a son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019.

“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” the pair wrote on Instagram. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

That same day, the Duke of Sussex spoke to members of the press outside of Windsor Castle about his wife and newborn.

“Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning — a very healthy boy,” Harry said. “Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. This has been the most amazing experience I could possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everyone out there. It’s been amazing. So we just wanted to share this with everybody.”

He added: “I haven’t been in many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible. As I said, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”

When he and the Suits alum brought their baby out for his royal debut that same month the former actress gushed about their son.

“He has the sweetest temperament,” she told members of the press inside Windsor Castle. “He’s really calm. He’s been the dream, so it’s been a special couple of days.”

The Los Angeles native called motherhood “magic” and went on to say, “It’s pretty amazing and I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”

In January 2020, the couple announced their decision to step back from their senior duties as members of the royal family. They moved to Los Angeles after spending some time with their son in Canada. The couple welcomed their second child, daughter Lili, in June 2021.

In April 2022, the Duke of Sussex called his growing toddler “cheeky” in a Today interview, adding, “I always try and keep that. I think that the cheekiness is something that keeps you alive.”

The former military pilot went on to joke about the challenges of raising a family amid a pandemic, explaining, “It’s really hard to separate the work from [the kids] because they kind of overlap. It’s really hard, I mean, Archie spends more time interrupting our Zoom calls. But he gets us off them, as well, so that’s a nice thing.”

The parents also said they make sure to keep “Grandma Diana’s” memory alive as a “constant” presence in their son’s life.

“[We] very much so [talk about her],” Harry said at the time. “I don’t tell him all the stuff that happened but certainly, ‘This is Grandma Diana.’ We’ve got pictures up in the house.”

After King Charles III ascended the throne upon Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, Archie and his little sister, Lilibet, became eligible to use the titles of the Prince and Princess of Sussex, respectively. In March 2023, Us confirmed that their new titles would be reflected on the official royal website.

As Charles geared up for his coronation in May 2023, his youngest grandson was celebrating his birthday at home. (Archie turned 4 on the day of Charles and Queen Camilla’s big event.)

“As much as Meghan appreciates the invite to the coronation, she wouldn’t miss her son’s birthday for the world,” an insider exclusively told Us Weekly in April 2023. “Despite being the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan is a mom first.”
